Use of Telemetry Data At Warner Bros Games

Turbine, a Warner Brothers Games company, supports analytics use cases for WB franchises across a broad ecosystem of gaming platforms, including PC, console, and mobile. This presentation will focus on the goals and challenges of instrumenting and analyzing a major console game for Xbox and Playstation that generates a billion events per day. The data processing architecture using EMR, S3, and Vertica will be discussed, as well as ongoing plans to provide real time insights and visualizations using Spark and Spark Streaming.

Steve Stalzer is the Director of Analytics Platforms for Turbine, a Warner Brothers Games studio, where he is responsible for the development, deployment, and support of Big Data platforms which use multiple technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, Amazon Web Services, Vertica, and SQL Server, to provide insights across the Warner Brothers game portfolio (console, PC, online, and mobile). His team supports some of the most well known games in the industry, including Shadow of Mordor, Injustice Gods Among Us, Mortal Combat X, and Lord of the Rings Online. Prior to this, he held numerous leadership roles in both the data analytics and mobile application teams at Nokia/Here, including Head of Big Data Platforms, Head of Customer Integration, and various senior technical roles.
