Comic Relief is one of the biggest brands in the UK. The charity sector is in many ways as competitive as the corporate sector, and with the public getting more involved in raising money for their own causes, Charities need to find different ways to interact with the public. In the next few years digital innovation will need to be at the forefront of a charities sectors thinking. Derek will present Comic Reliefs digital innovation strategy.
Derek Gannon joined Comic Relief in the role of Chief Operating Officer in September 2013 after a long and successful career at Guardian News and Media, where he was their first ever COO. Derek’s role at Guardian News and Media involved working on a number of major change programmes including transitioning The Guardian from a broadsheet to a Berliner format, directing operations of their award-winning websites and setting in place an ongoing digital transformation of the whole business. As COO at Comic Relief, he is responsible for our continued operational excellence and makes sure we remain sustainable. Derek leads our strategy, planning, budgeting and resourcing processes. He unites our support functions, like Finance, HR, Legal and Technology, and shepherds cross-organisational initiatives. He ensures that our ways of working are effective and in line with Comic Relief’s strategic objectives and priorities.
