Innovating When Your Brand Leads The Industry

Mark will present with Industrial Designer Paul Wylde on their recent project for Hampton by Hilton. They will cover the innovation challenges faced by an industry leading brand, where they found inspiration outside of their competitive set - including the confluence of the aviation and hospitality industries and how innovations in products have been traded between the industries for decades. They will summarise with the way Hampton by Hilton used this history and knowledge to create industry leading products.

Mark is the Director for Product Innovation at five of Hilton, Inc.’s Hotel Brands. He leads a team that has one foot planted in the future and one foot firmly in the present. His role is to create the future of the Branded Food and Beverage Experiences while ensuring operation efficiency for a system of over 3400 franchised hotels. 

A passion for all things travel and hospitality have guided Mark’s business and personal journeys. He is a successful entrepreneur having created multiple concepts for his own restaurant company and global intrapreneur delivering large-scale innovation at Hilton Worldwide. An award-winning strategist, who fixates upon the customer experience to create great products and service systems that have revolutionized the hotel industry.

Paul is CEO and Creative Director of paulwylde – a brand, innovation and design company that specializes in designing for hospitality. His active clients include Hawaiian Airlines, Alaska Airlines, Hilton Worldwide, Air Canada, Intercontinental Hotels Group, Jet Blue, and Panasonic Avionics. His projects span brand strategy, identity design, advertising, experience and service, food and beverage and new product development. Prior to this, Paul was the Creative Director for the Aviation Studio of Teague where he led a 51-strong team in developing future aircraft cabin design strategies for Boeing. In 1997, he was invited to Buckingham Palace to meet Her Majesty the Queen in recognition of his services to design. He has appeared on NPR, BBC 2 and Dutch television and has been featured in the New York Times T magazine. Paul’s work has been exhibited at London’s Design Museum twice, and he is a visiting lecturer at numerous US and UK universities.
