Creating a Dynamic Strategic Planning Process

The National Geographic Society has been successfully inspiring people to care about the planet for 125 years. In any large, multi-faceted company, a good strategic planning process is a must, but even more so in a time of rapidly changing business models. The process must also tie the corporate high-level, multi-year vision to the more tactical short-, medium-, and long-term business line goals and projects. By working through both a top-down and bottom-up approach, National Geographic has developed a strategic planning process to clearly define and meet overall corporate goals (with measurable results) as well as be flexible enough to react to industry trends.
