How Does NHS Blood And Transplant Plan Its Digital Strategy?

Like any business, the UK's NHS is in need of proper digital transformation to ensure that it offers the best value to its customers - its patients. We sat down with the Chief Digital Officer of NHS Blood and Transplant, Aaron Powell, to discuss digital's most exciting trends, the key tenets of an effective digital innovation strategy, and the challenges facing larger organizations when making the transition.

Aaron Powell joined NHS Blood and Transplant in January 2010 and, following a number of operational roles in the Organ Donation and Transplantation team, became Interim Director of ICT in November 2014. Aaron was appointed NHSBT's first Chief Digital Officer in July 2015 to lead the development of world class digital services and deliver a comprehensive technology transformation to support the digital agenda. Aaron joined NHSBT from the United Network for Organ Sharing, the organisation which manages the transplantation system for the United States, prior to which he held a number of programme management and software development roles in the UK and the Middle East.
