Thom began his career at Colorado State University in 1989 at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital leading the development of a new medical record system. He spent six years leading the information technology services group within the college before assuming the business officer role in the dean’s office, overseeing the financial operation of the college. Over the next decade, he assumed a broader role as the Executive Director of Operations where he was responsible for the oversight of the college's administrative operations that serve over 1,800 employees and have an annual operating income of $125 million. He currently holds the title of Executive Director – College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. In this position, he serves the college by leading the strategic planning effort, overseeing all legal issues and directing the units of Communications and International Programs. Reporting to the Dean, he spearheads major facility initiatives such as the development of new buildings, providing leadership for new academic programs, and working closely with department heads, unit leaders and University administration to the betterment of the college.
