Chinese tech corp Xiaomi has announced a strategic partnership with IKEA to support its IoT-infused lighting products, with IKEA stating it was "the first time IKEA has partnered with a Chinese technology company".
From the new partnership, the Swedish multinational retail company will leverage Xiaomi's IoT platform and will be controlled via Xiaomi products such as its Mi Home App and the Xiaomi AI Assistant.

The IoT platform will support IKEA's full range of smart lighting products and will also have the ability to be paired to other Xiaomi IoT smart devices such as sensors and electrical appliances, in addition to Xiao AI and the MI Home app.
Fan Dian, general manager of the IoT platform department of Xiaomi, said: "IKEA and Xiaomi share very similar values and I believe our cooperation will accelerate the development of the smart home industry across the world."

Xiaomi's IoT platform was launched at an event in China last year. As of September 30, the platform had a reported 20 million daily active devices in more than 200 countries worldwide, according to data from Xiaomi's CEO and founder Lei Jun.
The partnership with IKEA, according to Xiaomi, will be put in to effect in December, starting in China.
