Successful Business Innovations For Investors

A look at business innovations that investors need to know about

The world continues to experience different types of business innovations that are changing the way consumers and businesses view their industry. The number of disrupters in each industry is rising, and the number of new startups is increasing alongside them. The role of disrupters is crucial as they enter the market to make products and services both better and cheaper than before. As usual, these disrupters offer opportunities for investors to increase their wealth. Disrupters are in the form of startups or innovations created by existing businesses. The most important thing is the impact they have on the market, whether intended or not. The world has certainly experienced innovations in many sectors including gaming, communications, healthcare and so on, and the following are some of the most successful from an investor's point of view.

The rise user-generated content

Wikipedia was launched in 2001, as a free user-generated online encyclopedia. When the site was available online to become a reference site for most internet users and researchers, nobody realized it was part of a revolution coming to the world. Investors later realized that it was just the beginning of a new era of user-generated content that would change the business environment. In 2005, YouTube was launched as part of a user-generated content business and rapidly became the king of video sharing and created the opportunity for people to host their content for free. YouTube quickly became viral, and today hosts billion of videos for its users and has more than 100 billion views each month.

YouTube and other video sharing sites have given the average person the ability to have an unprecedented influence on the media. With these sites being free, it is cheap to record with just a handheld video camera, a protest, embarrassments, and conflicts among others. The business of user-generated content has seen international bloggers venture in the market to tell stories that are swept under by the authoritarian regimes. For big investors such as mainstream news, it has been an opportunity to make money through digital news content. They have a better opportunity to interact with their readers through comment and critiques of their stories, photos and video from breaking news events. Due to the impact created by the user-generated movement, Time magazine named 'You' as the person of the year in 2006. Investors have indeed invested heavily in user generated content and growth of the sector is on the rise.

Social Networking revolution

Social networking is undoubtedly the sector that has had the biggest impact on the world. It has affected almost every other sector, be it NGOs, technology, branding, communications, file sharing and marketing among others. The social media revolution is ever expanding, and social media sites are increasing in number. From the traditional sites such as MySpace and Friendster to the recent Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp and IMO is an indication that the trend will continue.

Mark Zuckerberg launched Facebook in 2004, initially intended for college students but later became the go to socializing site around the world for anyone over 13 and with a valid email address. Today over 1 billion people have a Facebook account around the World. Twitter, another social networking that has been an opportunity for investors, lets user broadcast messages in 140 character length. It experienced a turning point from a fall when its original investors re-acquired it to make it a worldwide social site. Since then Twitter has gone public.

3D Printing and Robotics

The 3D printing trend has just started and it is already a frenzy for many investors around the world. 3D printing technology is impacting more vendors, more applications, and more printing media. This year alone, over fifty 3D printer vendors are selling their home products for just under $300. The technology was previously used for making manufacturing prototypes, but recently, disruptive innovations have emerged to make applications that work with it, as key components decrease in price. The technology is now being used in just-in-time manufacturing, printing more sophisticated designs, health applications and products than ever before.

Companies such as Voxel 8 have announced they will be selling a 3D printer that can print electronic circuitry for future electronic devices. 3D printing is a true source of wealth for many investors.

However, the biggest question is 'How do these investors evaluate the right business innovation to inves int?' Many people believe that the answer lies in data modeling. Data modeling helps investors to improve the quality of data, reduce the development time, reduce the maintenance time and reduce any incidences of redundancy. The main benefit is a reduction in the cost of development and maintenance of a project that helps the investor gain more profits and better predict future trends.
