Stellar, one of the world's largest bitcoin providers, has announced it is holding a token giveaway of $125m worth of its own cryptocurrency, Stellar lumens (XLM), in the most valuable give-away ever.

Stellar is pairing with Blockchain, the world's leading bitcoin wallet, to airdrop each KYC-verified Blockchain wallet holder 100XLM (worth around $25).

The goal of the giveaway is to raise Stellar's profile among wallet holders and generally promote the technology. Stellar joins a small number of high-profile bitcoin companies supported by the Blockchain wallet.

"This airdrop will put the Stellar name and technology in front of Blockchain's 30 million account holders, and will bring many new users into our ecosystem," the Stellar team explained in a blog post. "Stellar will be only the fourth currency supported by Blockchain; we're joining Ethereum, Bitcoin, and Bitcoin Cash as top-line options in one of the most popular digital wallets in the world."

Blockchain plans to continue using airdrops like this one to drive adoption and raise awareness of the technology. "Blockchain Airdrops are a great way for crypto creators to drive decentralization and adoption for new networks," Blockchain explained in a blog post. "We think they're great for crypto users too. They let you test, trade, and transact with the next generation of crypto assets without having to buy them or mine them."
