Gaming developer Certain Affinity to set up Toronto hub

The Austin-based gaming developer behind the Call of Duty, Halo and DOOM franchises will open its new Toronto office in February

Independent video game developer Certain Affinity has announced its intention to open a second development location in the Canadian city of Toronto.

The company from Austin, Texas, develops triple-A action original games and co-development titles including well-known franchises such as Call of Duty, Halo and DOOM.

The new studio will support the company's Austin studio, where work is underway on an original title and original IP sci-fi game Last Expedition. It will be located in Toronto's Fashion District and will open in February 2019, with the company stating that it would look to build a team of up to 60 employees in the new office.

Certain Affinity president and founder Max Hoberman said: "We have built a company with one of the game industry's most inclusive and diverse cultures, and we look forward to bringing this mindset to our new Toronto studio and to being a positive member of the Toronto business community."

Certain Affinity products seen sales of more than 100 million units since it began life as a bootstrapped startup in 2006. The company is now home to 170 full-time employees in the Austin.
