And as tech colossus' fight to secure the best technology first, consumers are lapping it all up. Amazon's 2017 Q3 earnings confirmed that they had sold more than 20 millions Alexa devices. In the same year, Walmart and Google announced a new partnership to enable voice shopping through Google Assistant.
As the demand for voice search and digital assistants increases, the software behind it has also progressed significantly. What was once a a clunky, inaccurate text search system, is fast becoming a voice assistant capable of conducting ever-more complicated tasks.
